This piece was created for Respect for the Aged Day. I drew a car I deeply admired back in primary school, during the "supercar boom" in Japan. I painted this while imagining: if someone had been driving this same car ever since those days, what a cool, seasoned adult they must have become by now.
The Harvest Moon shines above, with the trees of the night standing in quiet retreat beneath it. The overlapping leaves, the skeleton of the branches—tonight’s sky is painted bright, as if to trace their silent forms. The night sky is not always black, and darkness alone is not the only way to speak of the night.
Precisely because it is autumn—the season of appetite—I decided to resist the temptation of addition. There are no excessive toppings, nor any purely cosmetic decorations. All that is required is the functional beauty of a perfectly toasted slice of bread and a square of butter melting from the heat.
