Society of Illustrators 52 Silver Medal
raindrops popopo, originally uploaded by Tatsuro Kiuchi.
I have 7 pieces accepted into the Society of Illustrators 52 Annual, and the above image won a silver medal for the book category. This is my first time to receive a medal from Society of Illustrators, and am very excited.
This is a jacket illustration for a children’s picture book, Rain Po Po Po, written by Naoko Higashi. The book is for toddlers, so I had to use bright colors with simple, strong, and bold compositions. In order to make the book appeal to parents who have either boys or girls, I tried to depict the protagonist being indistinctive of gender by not showing his face fully. (Actually, he is a boy, but the child could be a girl, too.) I am illustrating the second book with Naoko Higashi right now. This book will have cherry blossoms and petals, just like raindrops in Rain Po Po Po.

This image is also from Rain Po Po Po. An interior piece.

This baseball piece was quite well received and was also selected into American Illustration 28 and Communication Arts Annual.

A protest poster for Green Iran.

These 3 pieces are for The Sea, The Sea, written by Iris Murdoch.
The book has 512 pages including frontispiece and 8 colour illustrations.
This was a very fun project.
